The National Archives of Italy (Direzione Generale per gli Archivi) and FamilySearch have joined forces to provide free access to over 100 million birth, marriage, and death records from the Italian Civil Registration from 1800 through 1940—the most useful collection for Italian genealogical researchFamilySearch and the Direzione Generale per gli Archivi (Italian national archives) are digitizing more than 115 million historic birth, marriage, and death certificates from the Italian civil registration. The records contain approximately 500 million names! Tens of thousands of online volunteers are needed to index (make searchable) the records. Once the records are indexed, anyone will be able to search for their Italian ancestors in these records and view digitized images of the original documents. The publication of these records will enable the discovery of countless family stories and relations worldwide. Help make Italian history. Become an Italian Ancestors volunteer today!
